Fannish Auction

Time and place

The Convergence 2 Fannish Auction will be held on Saturday 9 June from 12.00 pm (midday). See the daily program sheets for location. Items on auction will be sold by individuals or by the Fan Funds: GUFF, DUFF, FFANZ and NAFF.

Sell your stuff

Drop off your sale items at the convention registration desk up to 11.30 am. The desk will be open from 5.00 pm on Friday evening and from 9.00 am on Saturday morning.

Clearly label all items with:

  • your name
  • a description of the article (make it snappy and attractive, so the auctioneer can rouse up interest)
  • the reserve price (the lowest price you’re willing to part with the item)
  • contact mobile phone number – or failing that, how else we can contact you.

Lots

If items are bundled as lot, make sure that they are securely bundled together so that they do not become separated. Ensure that the description notes that the item is a "lot".

Eligibility

Only people in attendance at Convergence 2 may place items in the auction.

Tax

Convergence 2 will collect 5% of the sale price of all items sold, except for those items specifically sold for raising funds for the Fan Funds – DUFF, GUFF, FFANZ and NAFF.

Payments

There will be no eftpos or credit card facilities available at the auction so please bring your cash or cheque book if you wish to purchase.

Make sure your sale items are already broken

Great, that got your attention. Now think about the people handling your sale items. All the bits come apart. There is nothing saying that these things are a set, or if they’re to be sold separately. The note is hand scrawled and doesn’t contain all the information in the list above. The auctioneers are expected to guess who you are, how much you expect to get for it and call on their psychic powers to work out how wonderful and exactly what the darn thing is. Then, of course, you’ll whinge later about how they sold it for half its value... Make it easy for people to carry out the auction smoothly, quickly and successfully. Nobody likes a sore seller!
